With going through and learning WHMIS, PPE, H2S, TDG, Fatigue Manager, Labour Standards, WCB, and Weight Restrictions I Got a really good understanding about the importance of each within the Oil and Gas Industry. I have taken WHMIS before so that was a refresher. Learning about PPE was interesting, to learn all the different kinds of PPE and how different companies may request certain brands. I have never taken H2S and learned the extreme danger with it and how you need to make sure that you never get complacent with the danger of it. TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) is a huge importance in the trucking aspect of Oil and Gas; it puts in safety measures for the individual hauling the goods as well as the everyday public. Fatigue Management was a little bit confusing with all the different rules with different shifts, and each province having a different expectation. Labour Standards was actually pretty interesting to me to know what rules are out there specifically to help with the safety and fairness of employees and employers. WCB is good to have a slight idea of how it works and the rules to use it, and hopefully I will never have to use it for myself. Learning the weight restrictions of trucks will be something that I will have to re-look at when and if I ever need to use it but did take a few things away from it. All of these small courses that we touched on, I will most likely have more questions and have to re-look at things as I get out into the work force. However, having an understanding to start out is perfect and will greatly benefit me. I am sure!

Our field trip to Cactus Lake Battery was unquestionably my favorite so far! Even though we had touched on how batteries run, as well as Claude’s fantastic job explaining it, getting to go into the actual buildings and getting an explanation of each aspect from start to finish on how a battery runs was incomparable. I don’t fully understand all the filter and gadgets on how they separated and work to get the oil to where it needs to be, I am way farther ahead than I was before. I think the rest will come with time and experience out in the real working world.

This course was well executed and planned out in my opinion. Even though things were changed and added throughout, everything and everyday was beneficial and appreciated. The Oil and Gas Industry is huge and it is hard to understand it all, but this course has put me on a great path of understanding and has made me even more excited to venture out in the work force. A little nervous but excited non-the-less! I will succeed and do great, with the majority of the credit going to this fabulous class of broad knowledge of the Lloydminster Oil and Gas Industry!
